Twice Acquired. Once Recognised by Consensus.
2004 Consensus Award Winners
Oniqua Pty Ltd | Consensus Software Award Winner 2005
When Oniqua Pty Ltd was recognised by the Consensus Software Awards in 2005, the company was already solving one of industry's most expensive and complex challenges—helping asset-intensive organisations make smarter decisions about maintenance, inventory and operational performance.
Its award-winning solution, Oniqua Intelligent MRO, combined advanced analytics with enterprise asset management to help organisations optimise maintenance, repair and operations (MRO), reduce inventory costs and improve the reliability of critical infrastructure.
The Consensus Awards recognised Oniqua for its innovation, technical excellence and outstanding commercial potential.
It would prove to be the beginning of an extraordinary global success story.
Founded in Brisbane, Oniqua rapidly established itself as a world leader in predictive analytics and asset optimisation software. Its technology was adopted by many of the world's largest organisations operating in mining, energy, utilities, oil and gas, transportation and manufacturing—industries where even small improvements in equipment reliability could save millions of dollars.
As demand for industrial intelligence and predictive maintenance grew worldwide, Oniqua's reputation continued to strengthen.
In 2012, the company entered a significant new chapter when it was acquired by ASCO Group, a global provider of logistics and supply chain services to the energy sector.
The acquisition provided Oniqua with expanded international reach, enabling its Australian-developed technology to be deployed across an even broader range of industries and global customers.
But the story didn't end there.
Six years later, in 2018, Oniqua was acquired once again—this time by IBM.
The acquisition formed part of IBM's global strategy to strengthen its Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), artificial intelligence and enterprise asset management capabilities. Oniqua's technology became an integral component of IBM's asset optimisation portfolio, complementing industry-leading platforms including IBM Maximo and helping organisations move from reactive maintenance to predictive, data-driven decision making.
At the time of the acquisition, Oniqua employed almost 200 people and had grown into a business generating approximately A$29.4 million in annual revenue—a remarkable achievement for an Australian technology company that had begun with a vision to solve real industrial challenges through intelligent software.
Today, the innovation pioneered by Oniqua continues to support some of the world's largest organisations as part of IBM's enterprise software ecosystem, helping businesses improve operational performance, reduce downtime and optimise critical assets across global industries.
For Consensus, Oniqua is a powerful example of what the Awards were established to identify.
Long before international acquisitions, global expansion and integration into one of the world's largest technology companies, Consensus recognised the innovation, commercial strength and long-term potential that set Oniqua apart.
Its journey—from Australian software innovator to acquisition by ASCO, and ultimately IBM—demonstrates that world-class enterprise technology can be conceived, developed and commercialised right here in Australia.
